Overview
LNG is natural gas, predominantly methane, that has been cooled to extremely low temperatures (approximately -162 °C) to convert it into liquid form, reducing its volume significantly for efficient storage and long-distance transportation. LNG is a critical component of the global energy supply chain, enabling natural gas to be shipped across oceans where pipeline infrastructure is unavailable or impractical.
It is used for power generation, industrial heating, residential energy supply, and increasingly as a cleaner alternative marine and transport fuel. The LNG market has grown substantially in recent decades, with a complex global trade network involving liquefaction terminals, specialised LNG carriers, and regasification facilities.
