Overview
Urea is a nitrogen-rich chemical compound and the world’s most widely used solid nitrogenous fertiliser. It is produced synthetically through the reaction of ammonia and carbon dioxide, and contains approximately 46% nitrogen, the highest nitrogen content of any solid fertiliser. Urea plays a vital role in global agriculture by replenishing soil nitrogen levels and enhancing crop yields.
Beyond its agricultural use, urea is also an important industrial chemical used in the production of resins, adhesives, plastics, and animal feed supplements. It is also used in selective catalytic reduction systems to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines. Urea is traded globally in granular and prilled forms, with prices influenced by natural gas costs, agricultural demand cycles, and geopolitical factors.
